Foods of Papua New Guinea

Although there's a distinct lack of Chicago-style pizza restaurants here in Ukarumpa, there's lots of other tasty tropical treats available. For example:

Bananas. You should know what these look like.

Coconuts

Ugal (at POC) demonstrating the proper way to open a coconut

Baby pineapples growing in my back yard

Despite its appearance, passion fruit tastes delicious

Rambutan. You eat the small white part.

Kaukau (sweet potato), the staple food of PNG

Snake beans were named by the same genius who came up with the name "orange"

All these and more can be found at the Ukarumpa market, rain or shine!
And, moving on from the produce department...

Fresh fish, if you're lucky enough to live on the coast

It tastes... American?

Oreos! Hey, wait a minute...

Chicken flavored crackers are quite popular. Also available in beef.
